Empowering and guiding you
Sonja Barsky is a Board Certified Patient Advocate and NP, she founded Patient Advocacy for Total Healthcare to fill a need in our overburdened healthcare system. She will empower and support those people who are overwhelmed with new diagnoses and complicated medical issues. She hopes to empower patients as well as their families and caregivers to get clear communication from their providers and partner with them in making informed medical decisions.
PATH’s focus is to help clients and their families navigate the healthcare system to achieve their best quality of life.
Why Sonja Chose Patient Advocacy
Seeing people on the worst day of their lives in the last two decades of her career as a nurse practitioner at major cancer centers. Sonja has encountered patients who are overwhelmed, and unable to take in information. They need help but they are confused and don’t know where to begin. Unfortunately, our healthcare system is not set up to help at these times or throughout the course of a long, ongoing, and debilitating illness. Healthcare is a business and often what is best for that system is not what is best for individuals. Even though she has loved her career providing clinical care, Sonja decided that she can best help patients and their families by working for them as a patient advocate. Working directly for a client avoids the conflict of interests that come when advocates are paid by the hospital or insurance.
Sonja has had many close friends and family members deal with cancer and other complex medical situations and because of her background, they have reached out to her for support and guidance. They were scared and confused by the amount of information and conflicting opinions from multiple specialists they received. Sonja believes that everyone, even those without a health care expert in the family, deserves to have a knowledgable support system to turn to in a healthcare crisis and that is why PATH was created.
As an independent advocate Sonja Barsky will put all her energy and experience into ensuring that the patient understands and can access the best resources to improve their quality of life. PATH employees will coordinate, organize, empower, and partner with you in your care. We at PATH are excited to support you through shared decision making and together we will break through the obstacles in your care.
